Local artist Sam Ravenna specializes in soul, funk and reggae, drawing from influences such as Stevie Wonder, Dumpstaphunk and James Brown in creating his own music.

“On his debut self-titled album, Sam Ravenna establishes himself as a chef in a soul kitchen,” states the artist’s online biography.

“Blending ingredients of electro funk, hip-hop and classic and modern soul, Ravenna pulls together an all-star band consisting of players from some of the best touring acts in the country.”

These players include members of bands such as Nahko and Medicine for the People, Pretty Lights and Turkuaz, who have all contributed to Ravenna’s “intricate arrangements and uncompromising electric sound.”

The Truckee-based musician has performed alongside fellow North Shore artist Peter Joseph Burtt & The Kingtide, along with Cas Haley and Tubby Love. Ravenna — a bassist, producer and songwriter — has produced a number of records for both local musicians and national touring acts.

“All of these accomplishments culminate in Sam Ravenna’s high-energy and intimate musical experience he’ll be taking on the road,” continues the bio.

Ravenna stops by Crystal Bay Casino on Saturday, Dec. 9, to promote his self-titled record, which dropped in June this year.

The gig, which is free to attend, begins at 10 p.m. and is open to guests at least 21 years of age.
