During the winter months when your body is working overtime to keep you warm while you’re out on the mountain — and as germs and viruses abound in public spaces — it’s no time to slack on getting your daily dose of fruits and vegetables. These vitamin-packed juices are available right here on the South Shore, and are just what you need to keep your energy levels up and your immune system fighting.

Flu Fighter — Sprouts Café

Ask anyone in town where to get a good glass of fresh squeezed juice, and chances are the answers will all be the same — Sprouts. With 16 juice options, plus three concentrated ‘shots’ on the menu, this South Shore eatery knows a thing or two about good health. Some people opt for the Whole D**m Garden — carrot, beet, celery, parsley, garlic and wheatgrass — when they’re in need of something delicious and nutritious; but if you’re looking for a Vitamin C boost to fend off that cold, we recommend the Flu Fighter. Carrot and orange juice mingles with fresh ginger, lemon, celery and parsley to give your immune system the kick in the pants it needs.

Sprouts Café is located at 3123 Harrison Ave in South Lake Tahoe.

Grapefruit Fennel — Verde Mexican Rotisserie

OK, so maybe it’s more about the tacos than the juice, but Verde carries a slew of health-oriented drinks that are perfect for washing down a tri-tip burrito after a day on the slopes. In addition to coconut water and kombucha, you will find a selection of Pure Life Organic Cold Pressed Juices from Folsom, California. While the Green Lemonade is tempting (loads of lemons juiced with kale, spinach, romaine, cilantro, cucumber and celery), we recommend the Grapefruit Fennel flavor — a sweet and sour mix of grapefruit, apple, lemon and fennel.

Verde Mexican Rotisseries is located at 3141 U.S. Highway 50 in Meyers.

Zenful — Simple Bliss Vegan Café

Tucked in the Swiss Chalet Village, Simple Bliss Vegan Café is perfect for people who like to deprive themse…I mean, the health-conscious eater. If you’re looking for a nutrition-packed juice to accompany your cashew “cheese” lentil burger, why not try the Zenful juice blend of apple, cucumber, celery, ginger, turmeric and lime? Or if you’re feeling really adventurous, there is always the Detox Potion, which, in addition to a farmers market-worth of vegetables, has a dash of cayenne pepper for an added kick. P.S. this was not intended to be offensive to vegans. We wholeheartedly admire your self-control.

Simple Bliss Vegas Café is located at 2540 Lake Tahoe Blvd #7 in South Lake Tahoe.

Orange Supreme — Jamba Juice

This may not be a Mom-and-Pop store, but there is no denying that Jamba Juice knows their way around a blender. The Orange Supreme is a mix of orange juice, carrot juice, bananas, apple juice and chia seeds, which is sure to get you well on your way to fulfilling your daily serving of fruits and vegetables.

Jamba Juice is located at 4000 Lake Tahoe Blvd #33 in South Lake Tahoe.

Blueberry B’Mega — Grass Roots Natural Foods

Grass Roots is a health food Mecca, so not surprisingly they carry a large selection of all-natural juices, including over a dozen varieties of Columbia Gorge Organic’s drinks. Our pick from the Hood River, Oregon-based company is the Blueberry B’Mega juice made with cold pressed apples and pears mixed with blueberries, blackberries, flax, acai powder, and a superblend of guava, Holy Basil, and lemon extract. Fun fact: this drink will pump you with 800 percent of the recommended daily value of Vitamin B-1.

Grass Roots Natural Foods is located at 2030 Dunlap Dr. in South Lake Tahoe.
