$1 million Cal lottery ticket still not cashed

SANTA ANA, Calif. ” Start checking your pockets, purses and trash cans.

A $1 million winning lottery ticket for a New Year’s Eve raffle still has not been cashed, California Lottery officials said Friday.

The ticket, bought at the Olmos Market here, is the only one of five $1 million winners that has not been redeemed, spokeswoman Catherine Doyle Johnston said.

The ticket has the numbers 0-6-7-8-7-5-0.

It can be redeemed at a state lottery office or it can be mailed to the lottery.

“We actually had multimillion-dollar tickets mailed a time or two,” Johnston said. “It got here safe and sound.”

The lottery tickets sold for $20 each.

The ticket holder has 180 days from the time the winning numbers were chosen to collect. If it is not claimed, the money will go to the state to support schools.

Johnston said it was not “too uncommon” for lottery winners to be slow in claiming their prizes.

Some people don’t check their tickets immediately, she said.

Sometimes, the winning ticket was purchased on behalf of a group of people and it can take time to gather everyone to claim the prize, Johnston said.

Or the new millionaire might simply be too tied up at work to immediately claim the prize, Johnston said.

Johnston said whoever is holding the ticket should immediately sign the back.

Her other advice?

“Keep it in a very safe place and come in as soon as you can.”
