2 armed robberies in 3 nights
A woman walking behind Raley’s at the Village Center on Tuesday evening was accosted by a gunman who fled with her purse, police said.
The robbery at about 8:30 p.m. came two days after a Sunday night robbery in the same area in which a gunman robbed another woman of her purse, said South Lake Tahoe Police Sgt. Danny Mosqueira. That robbery took place about 11 p.m. in the area of Echo Road, he said.
The robber in each case had a similar description.
On Tuesday, the woman was walking alone when the man came up from behind, displayed a handgun and demanded her purse. The victim handed over her handbag and was not injured.
The man fled toward the Marriott complex and remained at large Tuesday night. Several people interviewed near the Heavenly Village ice arena said they had noticed nothing unusual and were unaware a robbery had occurred.
The gunman was described as white, 20 to 30 years old, at least 6 feet tall with a thin build.
He wore a green hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up, light colored pants and a mask that covered much of his face.
Mosqueira advised people to use caution when out at night.
“People should try to park in well-lighted areas – parking structures, or maybe use valet parking,” he said.
