$20K OK’d to assist North Tahoe residents to replace wood stoves

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The Placer County Air Pollution Control District recently launched its “Burn Bright Burn Right Wood Stove Replacement Program.”

The program provides financial incentives to encourage Tahoe property owners to replace older, non-certified wood-burning appliances with cleaner-burning units, according to a county news release.

The program provides $650 vouchers to go toward purchase and installation of an EPA Phase II Certified appliance, pellet stove or gas stove when replacing a qualifying old appliance.

Through a Board of Supervisors-approved agreement, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency provided roughly $20,000 to fund the program.

Since vouchers are provided by TRPA, only upgrades located within the Placer County portion of Lake Tahoe will be considered.

“We expect this program to be popular and are optimistic that it will accelerate the replacement of older wood-burning units that contribute to air pollution, especially in the winter,” Tom Christofk, Placer County Air Pollution Control Officer, said in a statement.
