3 Zephyr Cove students are on their way

Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra recently awarded On Your Way Awards to three students at Zephyr Cove Elementary School. The award recognizes students who are working hard to achieve scholastic excellence in reading.

The students are Gabriel Rusk, Lauren George and Jenny Shepack. Each winner was given a framed plaque and a $25 gift certificate to Neighbors Bookstore. In addition, the school library received a set of books on behalf of Soroptimist and in honor of the student winners.

Third-grader Gabriel Rusk was chosen because he likes to read so much he is always walking around with a book. His favorite books is “The Deltor Quest.” Gabriel likes to read because, “You can make the characters be anything you want.”

Fourth-grader Lauren George has worked very hard to become an excellent student with an infectious attitude. Her favorite book is “Winn Dixie.” She like to read because it is entertaining.

Fifth-grader Jenny Shepack was chosen because she has perseverance and excellent work habits. Jenny’s favorite book is “Things Not Seen.” She likes to read because the descriptions are like watching a movie.
