424-page North Tahoe-Truckee housing study now available

Special to the Tribune

This year, our community came together for an unprecedented collaborative effort to assess our regional housing reality.

This included bringing together key stakeholders among our counties, special districts, towns, nonprofits and businesses. It also called upon our police force, citizens, homeowners and seasonal employees to come forward to share their stories and personal experiences in order to develop a real understanding of North Tahoe-Truckee’s complex housing needs.

Now, we are happy to share the final presentation of the 2016 Regional Housing Study with you.

The final assessment, at 424 pages, is an in-depth document that covers the areas identified as key to establishing a common understanding and baseline needs assessment for North Tahoe-Truckee.

The presentation includes the geographic areas studied, present workforce and tourism trends, and the current housing market as well as proposed housing projects.

Alongside estimates of our future housing demands, the document shares case studies of our sister mountain communities who have implemented strategic solutions we could learn from.

The document concludes with policy and program recommendations for our community to take into consideration, as proposed by the consulting firm we contracted to perform the assessment, BAE Urban Economics.

The Executive Summary is also available to view or download as a separate document. You can see both at http://www.ttcf.net/impact/regional-housing-study.

As we move forward to develop the right strategies and solutions for all of us, our region will need to continue to work together for our shared common goal of cultivating a vibrant, healthy community. On behalf of all our partners, thank you for your commitment to our region.
