$50,000 purse in new High Roller Hold’em comp
Riding and gambling will meet this winter on Heavenly turf.
Texas Hold’em strategy will mix with pro-level riding this season in Heavenly Mountain Resort’s new High Roller Hold’em big air competition Saturday, April 6. Competitors will need poker skills and pro tricks in a battle for $50,000. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White will host the event.
“I’m going to go all in and say, it’s gonna go off,” White said in a press release.
Each rider will be dealt two cards, three in the super final, with each card featuring a different trick. The riders will then bet on the trick of their choice and must execute the trick to win that round. The rider who lands the trick with the highest level of difficulty will win that round and qualify for the big purse in the super final.
This will all go down on one massive big-air jump, built on World Cup by park masterminds Snow Park Technologies.
“After the success of the Nike Chosen event last year, you can bet your whole stack that we’re going to take the competition and the party to the next level,” said Chris Gunnarson, SPT’s president. “This format breaks the traditional mold for big air competitions and incorporates a mental strategy to compliment the riders’ physical talent.”
The competition will be held at night and feature a live DJ, fireworks, laser lights and the Heavenly Angels.
“This is one giant, unprecedented party for both athletes and spectators that only Heavenly can pull off,” said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly’s general manager.
