Abandoned suitcase at casino sidewalk turns up empty

Dan Thrift / Tahoe Daily TribuneA member of the Tahoe-Douglas Bomb Squad uses a mini camera to peer into a suitcase left outside Harveys Casino Resort this morning. The luggage was empty.

A suitcase that was left abandoned next to Harveys casino in Stateline has been determined to be safe, Douglas County authorities said.

At about 10:30 this morning security for Harveys called the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department to report a suitcase that was left next to a door. The suitcase was partially unzipped.

Deputies investigated and at one point closed off Stateline Avenue and a bomb squad was called in, said Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jim Halsey.

At about 11:50 this morning, the suitcase was determined to be empty, Halsey said.
