Academic improvement tops agenda

Academic improvements plans from Bijou Community School and South Tahoe Middle School are one agenda item for a Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education meeting scheduled to begin tonight at 6.

The two schools have suffered on tests associated with the federal No Child Left Behind Act which has set expectations for academic achievement.

If the two schools continue to underperform, state assistance could arrive.

The improvement plans are the most notable on a slim agenda. One report regards a list to determine teacher seniority that is needed if staffing cuts are needed for financial reasons.

The meeting will take place at the district’s boardroom located at 1021 Lake Tahoe Blvd., in South Lake Tahoe.
