STATELINE, Nev. – An automobile accident early Monday morning resulted in the loss of power to 2,300 Kingsbury Grade customers for about three hours.

Some residents’ power wasn’t restored until seven hours later.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office the accident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. Deputies reported hearing an explosion and then the power went out.

A power pole was struck by a vehicle at Kingsbury and Terrace View. The vehicle was gone when deputies arrived, but left a California license plate. One resident followed a trail of fluid to where a black Jeep was found in a ditch about 20 feet down from the end of Hall Court. Both airbags had been deployed and the dome light was on.

The accident closed the highway while power company crews worked to restore power.

NV Energy Spokesman Karl Walquist said the accident affected nearly all the customers along Kingsbury Grade, with the exception of the commercial area and sheriff’s substation at the base, which are on a separate circuit.

Power was restored to about 1,300 residents at about 3:30 a.m. and another 500 were restored by 4:30 a.m. by switching to another circuit. The remaining 500 customers had to wait until the pole was replaced at 7:30 a.m.
