Aces end first PCL season with a bang

RENO – Ed Rogers and Konrad Schmidt led the Aces’ 17-hit attack, as Reno ended its season on a seven-game winning streak, culminating in Monday afternoon’s 11-4 win over Fresno at Aces Ballpark.

The Aces took a 5-0 lead after one inning and led 8-0 after three, then cruised to the victory on the final day of the Pacific Coast League season. Rogers and Chris Roberson both had two-run doubles in the first, and Schmidt added to the lead with a two-run single in the third. The Aces tacked on insurance runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to cap-off their season-high seven-game winning streak.

Reno used five different pitchers, holding the Grizzlies to four runs and 10 hits. Travis Blackley (4-7) earned the victory, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out three.

Steve Hammond (11-12) took the loss for Fresno, allowing nine earned runs in five innings of work.

Five different Aces had multihit games in Monday’s contest, led by Schmidt (3 for 5, three RBI) and Rogers (3 for 5, two RBI). Roberson (2 for 5, two RBI) had two of Reno’s five doubles on the afternoon.
