‘Adopt a Day of Nourishment’ sponsorship provides meals for South Shore’s hungry

Staff reports

The senior management staff of Heavenly Mountain Resort left the mountain and gathered in the kitchen at Bread & Broth Jan. 11 to serve more than 75 locals in need as part of the charity’s “Adopt a Day of Nourishment.”

In addition to providing volunteers to cook, serve meals and clean dishes in Grace Hall at St. Theresa Church, Heavenly donated $250 to sponsor the evening. Blaise Carrig, Heavenly COO and co-president of Vail Resorts Mountain Division, promised another $500 toward new pots and pans.

Carrig was joined in the kitchen by Heavenly executives Michael Allen, Casey Blann, Brandy Thomson, Steve Turner, Russ Mortellaro, Paul Pfotenhauer and Les Marsh.

“Bread & Broth has been a mainstay in this community,” said Carrig. “We wanted to help by being involved on the ‘Adopt A Day’ program and Heavenly plans to stay involved.

“It also makes us feel good that we could pitch in,” he added. “It’s incredible what Bread & Broth does every week for people in need in our community.”

Bread & Broth is reaching out to businesses throughout the area to sponsor a Monday meal any time during the year. A $250 sponsorship covers the cost of food and beverages for the approximately 100 people who visit each Monday evening.

“Heavenly really came through in a personal and thoughtful way by volunteering staff in addition to their donation,” said Diane Weidinger, director of Bread & Broth. “We welcome more businesses to do the same.”
