‘Adopt a Family’ for the holidays

Sarah Utzig

Once again the holidays are approaching quickly. As many of us prepare for delicious, warm meals with our friends and family and the joys of exchanging gifts with loved ones, there are those in our community struggling to pay rent and purchase food or clothing. For these families the holidays can bring much distress and anxiety. In this season of spreading love and joy, there is a great way you, your family, friends or co-workers can help.

The South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center is sponsoring an Adopt a Family program for our clients, through which individuals or businesses help families by providing Christmas items. Adopted families may be as small as a single parent and child or a much larger family, depending on how much the donor wishes to provide.

In addition to Adopt a Family, donations of groceries, pre-cooked meals or gift certificates for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner are greatly appreciated. You can embrace the season of giving by spreading generosity to those in need right here in South Lake Tahoe. Imagine the joy you will bring to local families this holiday season and the fun you will have with your children shopping for other children in need, while teaching the value of appreciation and giving.

If you are interested in helping a family this holiday season through Adopt a Family or by donating food, a new toy, clothing or other gifts, please contact the South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center at (530) 544-2118 or stop by our office at 2941 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center building is financed by a low-cost loan through the Rural Community Assistance Corporation.
