Affordable housing, Keys marina expansion on TRPA agenda

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – An affordable housing project near the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Ski Run Boulevard, as well as an expansion of the Tahoe Keys Marina, will be considered by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s Governing Board this week.

The Aspens at South Lake Tahoe development is slated to include 55 deed-restricted affordable housing units located in seven two-story buildings and four three-story buildings next to Fire Station No. 1 in South Lake Tahoe.

The project needs nine “yes” votes – including five from California board members – from the 14 voting members of the TRPA’s Governing Board to pass.

The board is scheduled to hear the item at the start of the South Shore portion of their December meeting, at 9 a.m. on Thursday at the TRPA offices at 128 Market St. in Stateline.

The board may also discuss an expansion to the Tahoe Keys Marina that includes the construction of a 27,000-square-foot boat barn and a 29-foot wide, 100-foot long boat lift.

The projects are included under the Tahoe Keys Marina Master Plan, which was approved by the TRPA in May 2002. The boat lift won’t be built until litigation surrounding the TRPA’s Shorezone Ordinance Amendments is resolved, according to a TRPA staff memorandum.

Because the Tahoe Keys item is on the consent agenda portion meeting’s agenda, the Governing Board can approve the proposal without discussion.

The North Shore portion of the meeting that is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. today at the Chateau in Incline Village.
