After the storm: Chains and snowtires required throughout the Sierra
The skies are clearing but the wind just keeps on keeping on this morning making for hazardous road conditions. The following chain and snowtire controls are in effect as of 6:20 this morning. Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 28 miles between 2 miles west of Kyburz to Meyers. Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for about 3 miles between 14 miles east of Placerville and 2 miles east of Pollock Pines. Snowtires or chains required for 34 miles between State Route 89 and Deer Run Road in Carson City.
Road is closed through the Washoe Valley becuase of high winds. Chains or snow tires required from the Nevada/California state line to Bridgeport. Snowtires or chains required for 5 miles between Highway 50 and East Junction of Highway 50.
Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 70 miles between Colfax, Calif., and Truckee.
Chains or snowtires required from Highway 50 at Stateline, over Kingsbury Grade, to the junction of State Route 206 in the Carson Valley.
Snowtires or chains required for 16 miles between Highway 50 and the California state line. Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 11 miles between California state line and Tahoe City.
Chains or snowtires required for 11 miles between 4 miles east of Pine Grove, Calif., and Dew Drop, Calif. Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 29 miles between Dew Drop, Calif., and 2 miles east of Silver Lake, Calif. Road closed for 3 miles between 2 miles east of Silver Lake and a quarter mile east of Kirkwood. Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 7 miles between a quarter mile east of Kirkwood and 7 miles west State Route 89 at Picketts Junction.
Road closed due to avalanche control for 8 miles between 3 miles north of Highway 50 and Bliss State Park. Chains or snow tires required for 45 miles between Bliss State Park and Sierraville, Calif. Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 4 miles between Sierraville, Calif., and Sattley, Calif. Snowtires or chains required for 11 miles between Sattley, Calif. and 7 miles north of Calpine, Calif.
Chains or snowtires required for 22 miles between State Route 28 and about 2 miles south of Highway 395.
Chains or snowtires required for 5 miles between Interstate 80 at Truckee and 1 mile west of Northstar. Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 8 miles between 1 mile west of Northstar and Kings Beach.
