Agency to unveil wildfire prevention plan

Adam Jensen

A 10-year strategy to prevent wildfire and reduce forest fuels in the Lake Tahoe Basin will be presented by the U.S. Forest Service at two public meetings next week.

“The purpose of the meetings is to present the planning effort and to solicit feedback on the draft plan prior to final public release,” according to a Forest Service press statement.

Public comments on the plan will be accepted after a 30 minute overview presentation by the agency.

Encompassing about 208,800 acres, the draft plan is intended to be comprehensive, incorporating the 13,000 acres of completed fuel reduction treatments with on-going projects and those slated for future work.

An identical presentation at the North Tahoe Conference Center in Kings Beach is scheduled for Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m.
