Airport commission to choose marketing group
The Lake Tahoe Airport Commission will select a proposal from three consulting groups Thursday to devise a strategic marketing plan.
Proposals have been submitted by Aries Consultants LTD, Edwards and Kelcey, and Jon Rodgers Aviation Consulting. Goals of the plan include finding funding partners to help the city of South Lake Tahoe, which contributes about $500,000 a year to the airport; attracting a commercial air carrier; and making the airport a transit hub.
“This consultant is really going to be tasked with the big picture to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the airport,” said Mike Dikun, airport/transit manager.
Dikun said he wants the consultants to talk to all the various groups and governmental agencies involved in the airport and the Airport Master Plan Settlement Agreement of 1992. Dikun includes the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the League to Save Lake Tahoe as important sources of information.
Since the 1992 agreement about $70,000 has been spent on the airport for consulting fees. The latest, by Vesta Ray in 1998, consisted of a community public relations plan, airport marketing plan, and airline presentation package, said Janis Brand, airport management assistant.
Aries Consultants LTD charged $10,000 for the first phase of a plan in 1997. Phase 1 addressed financial considerations and Phase 2 was going to address future management and operations.
