South Lake Tahoe Athletic Teams is partnering with Albertsons Supermarket on Highway 50 to keep sports programs alive at South Tahoe High School and South Tahoe Middle School. The Viking Helmet Donation promotion encourages shoppers to purchase a $1 or $5 helmet (Blue or Gold respectively) to support STAT. In return, the Albertsons customer receives a helmet with their name on it posted on the store wall for all to see. Plus, all supporting customers are entered into a grand prize drawing for a chance to win a 3-minute Albertsons shopping spree. If a Blue helmet is drawn the winner will receive a 3-minute dash around the store. If a Gold helmet is drawn the winner will receive a 5-minute shopping spree. The shopping spree winner will be announced in October.

Store manager Mike Patton said, “Albertsons is a big supporter of South Tahoe Athletic Teams and we will do our part to make a difference for the community with regard to the kids. We have already sold 300 helmets. The community is rallying behind the effort.”

STAT also is hosting a major fund-raising auction on radio station KOWL 1490 AM from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 7. Businesses are being contacted by STAT with a request to donate merchandise valued at $50 or greater. Contributing businesses will be featured throughout the day during the radio-thon.

The board members of STAT are on a mission to keep sports programs alive at South Tahoe High School and South Tahoe Middle School and they need the community to rally behind youth sports teams with dollars and merchandise. The goal of STAT is to raise more than $200,000 and both KOWL radio-thon and Albertsons Viking Helmet promotion are expected to be a big part of the effort.

Donations are tax deductible via 501(3)(c) Trust and are deposited in the STAT account through the Education Foundation. All of the net proceeds go to keeping our youth in athletics. Checks can be made out and mailed to STAT, P.O. Box 10993, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96151. For more information contact Mark Garratt, STAT president, at (530) 542-3778 or
