All three involved with fatal crash local

All three people involved in July 5 motorcycle crash that claimed the life of one person were locals, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. Brian Williams.

Skye Melzer, 21, died at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno on July 6 after she was flown there following the collision.

Melzer was a passenger on the motorcycle driven by 23-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident Harrison Russel. Russel was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe via ambulance.

Russel and Melzer were traveling westbound on Lake Tahoe Boulevard toward the “Y” when a Nissan pickup truck driven by 54-year-old resident Michael Cearley collided with them near the intersection of Modesto Avenue a few minutes before 8:30 p.m. on July 5.

The pair were reportedly ejected from the motorcycle. Cearley reported that he was uninjured.

Williams said Friday that the case was still under investigation. Once it has been completed, all information will be submitted to the El Dorado County District Attorney’s office for review to determine whether or not charges will be filed.
