Allen, Gillespie power Aces to comeback victory

RENO – Reno rallied back from an early six-run deficit with seven unanswered runs Tuesday night – capped by a three-run home run off the bat of Brandon Allen – as the Aces topped the Tacoma Rainiers 7-6 in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.

Tacoma scored four runs in the first and tacked on two more in the second to take a quick 6-0 lead. But the Aces rallied. Reno pushed across a run in the second, received a Cole Gillespie two-run homer in the third, then a Gillespie RBI single and Allen’s 25th home run of the season gave the Aces their first lead of the night in the fifth. That one-run advantage was all the Aces needed.

Matt Torra (11-6) earned the victory, his sixth straight winning decision, despite surrendering six runs – five earned – over six innings of work. Torra walked one and struck out a season-high nine batters. Kasey Olenberger held Tacoma scoreless over 1 2/3 frames before Carlos Rosa finished the proceedings with a four-out save.
