Allstate increases car insurance rates

Allstate has filed paperwork with the state insurance division to raise rates 10 percent.

The proposed change would affect private passenger auto rates for 44,296 customers of Allstate Indemnity Co. in Nevada.

If approved by the division, the new rates would take effect Feb. 19 for new policies and March 22 for renewal policies.

The most recent increase for the company was a 6 percent increase that took effect April 1997.

The increase would generate nearly $4.7 million more in premium dollars for the company.

The increase wouldn’t raise rates for collision or comprehensive coverage offered by the company. But it would raise the base rates for bodily injury 12 percent, property damage 26 percent, uninsured motorist coverage 16 percent and medical by 25 percent.
