Alzheimer’s group meets regularly

Elder Options, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern Nevada, sponsors monthly Alzheimer’s Support Group meetings at South Lake Tahoe. Meetings take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon the second Thursday of each month at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The next meeting will be Oct. 11.

The group is made up of family, friends and caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients. Help is available for people who have questions about planning for the future, paying for care, legal matters, emotional reactions of caregivers or what to expect next. Dealing with the life adjustments of caring for someone diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other related disorders can feel frightening, frustrating or even overwhelming. The support group offers members of the community struggling with these issues a place to come share their experiences, release tensions, learn some effective cop strategies from one another and get accurate and relevant information.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group is free of charge and open to all family members, care givers and friends of Alzheimer’s patients. For more information or to be added to the mailing list for monthly newsletters contact Tine Callahan at Elder Options, (530) 541-1812.
