Amateur Radio field day
June 24, 2011
LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Amateur Radio Association will be participating in the Amateur Radio Relay League Field Day at Lake Tahoe Community College on Saturday.
This exercise shows the ability of Amateur Radio operators to setup a portable, self contained radio operations center that can communicate with the world. A portable communications center that can survive without support from the existing infrastructure (power, telephone, etc.). Amateur Radio operators are relied upon when conventional infrastructure fails (as in a natural disaster). Amateur Radio is also used to provide communication for local events, such as emergency drills and community bike rides in and around the Tahoe basin.
TARA will be setting up a special events station at Lake Tahoe Community College for Field Day, and invites the public to attend. TARA will provide facilities for people to try out amateur radio and get on the air.
TARA Field Day activities will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Lake Tahoe Community College, near the experimental garden. For more information, contact Mike Hildum at firstname.lastname@example.org.
