American Red Cross names Hellman as area preparedness and response manager

John Hellman will serve as the new Tahoe Area Preparedness and Response Manager for the Sacramento Sierra Chapter of the American Red Cross. His territory will cover the Lake Tahoe area.

Hellman’s main job function will be to bring American Red Cross emergency preparedness and response coordination to the Tahoe area. He will also be focusing on community outreach, health and safety training such as first aid and CPR and overall disaster preparedness education and training throughout the area.

“John has an extensive background and brings great expertise in the area of preparedness and response and we are so fortunate to have him be a part of our chapter,” said Julie Van Dooren, CEO of the Sacramento Sierra Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Hellman most recently served as the director of disaster services at the Heart of Texas Area Chapter in Waco, Texas and has relocated to the Tahoe area with his family.

“I am very fortunate to be working in such a wonderful community and I look forward to partnering with local agencies and ensuring that the Tahoe community and the surrounding area are prepared for future disasters,” said Hellman. “The American Red Cross has such a hard working group of volunteers in the area and I am proud to be serving with them.”
