And they’re off: Derby benefits school

St. Theresa School will hold a Derby Night fundraiser, featuring dinner, drinks and betting booths, Saturday, May 31, in its gymnasium at 1081 Lyons Ave. The $40 cost includes dinner. Gates open at 5 p.m., post time is 6 p.m., and dinner is at 6:30 p.m.

Actual horse racing was pre-recorded using five cinematography cameras and is narrated. All 12 races come in a sealed DVD format, which will not be unveiled until post time. There 12 horses in each of the 12 races. Each presold horse will run with the other horses sold in its price category. Participants will be able to place bets.

There are horse sponsorships available for $50, $100, $200 or $500, and it’s a 100 percent tax-deductible donation. There is a 1 in 12 chance that each horse will win 30 percent of the total purse, ranging from $180 to $1,800. Proceeds will benefit the school’s capital improvements.
