Animal services fees to increase April 1

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A number of fees for El Dorado County Animal Services will increase beginning April 1.

Cat adoption fee will rise from $75 to $80. Dog adoption fees will increase from $90 to $120.

The fee to license an altered dog will increase from $15 to $20 for a one-year license, and from $35 to $50 for a three-year license.



The fee to license an unaltered dog will increase from $35 to $100 per year and $90 to $150 for three years.

The fine for a dog that has never been licensed will increase from $30 to $100.



Licenses for potentially dangerous dogs will increase from $500 to $700 for the initial investigation and license and from $100 to $200 the annual renewal.

The fees for noncommercial kennel licenses will increase from $100 to $305. Fees for commercial kennel licenses will increase from $150 to $355. The fee for a kennel re-inspection required within a license year due to a violation will increase from $100 to $205.

Animal Services will also institute a new adoption hold fee. The hold fee will allow individuals who have found a cat or dog and taken it to the shelter the opportunity to place a hold on it. This fee, $44 for a dog and $35 for a cat, will give the individual a one-day priority for adopting the animal when it is available for adoption.

Animal Services responds to about 9,000 -10,000 animal related calls, complaints and emergencies from residents each year.
