Antique appraisals offered

Have you ever wondered what that old place of jewelry that you’ve had for years was worth? Or how about the book or coin collection you inherited? Now is your chance to find out the value of those antique items.

The South Lake Tahoe Branch of the American Association of University Women will sponsor an antique appraisal faire from 1 to 4 p.m. June 3 at St. Theresa Church, Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Lyons Avenue.

The fund-raising faire is similar to the Antiques Roadshow where people bring items ranging from old tea sets to furniture to find out their background and value. Nine appraisers who have general various specialties will be on hand to evaluate items brought in.

For particularly large items such as furniture people should bring photos that show appropriate details. The event has a three-item limit per person with each appraisal being a $5 donation. Items that are part of a set – such as comic books, silver sets and stamps – will be considered one item. In addition, there will be a raffle for items donated by area merchants. Light refreshments will be served.

All proceeds from the faire will go to providing scholarships for university-bound women and for middle school girls to attend a science/technology camp.
