Apparent drowning victim identified
Oscar Moreno, a 20-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident, was identified today as the man who reportedly drowned off Timber Cove Pier on Tuesday night around 8, authorities reported.
An autopsy is scheduled for later today, according to El Dorado County sheriff”s Coroner Larry Olsen.
According to witness reports, Moreno was swimming toward a boat near the pier and tried to pull himself into the boat but fell into the water. Moreno didn’t surface until a fire fighter pulled his body from the water.
Jeff Jallo with Vessel Assist said he took South Lake Tahoe firefighter Rob Hembree aboard his boat to look for Moreno. Jallo said the man was found in the water on his back wearing blue shorts in about 6 feet of water. Hembree donned gear to go into the water while Jallo stayed on the boat to help get Moreno’s body on board.
Moreno was pronounced dead at Barton Memorial Hospital.
