Applicants sought for school board vacancy

Provided to the Tribune

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education is looking for applicants and nominations to fill a vacancy for a term that will last until Dec. 6, 2013.

The board will accept applications and nominations at a public meeting on Aug. 7 and will select a provisional appointee by a majority vote. Anyone applying or nominated for the position must meet legal qualifications for board members as detailed in Education Code 35107. In order to be considered for the vacancy, interested candidates must complete a candidate information sheet and compose a 200-word statement of qualifications by July 20. Interviews will be held at a regular board meeting on Aug. 7. The appointee will be sworn into office at a meeting on Aug. 21, 2012.

Regular Board meetings are typically held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, with occasional special meetings called. Some personal time is required for study and growth. The appointeee will also be expected to attend school functions as an ambassador for the school district.
