April flowers may bring snow showers

Susan Wood

Winter may not be over after all for South Lake Tahoe. The National Weather Service is calling for a dramatic change in the overall scene starting Wednesday. A cooling trend with traces of moisture is predicted from midweek through Sunday.

High temperatures will dip to 56 degrees Tuesday and 50 Wednesday, with mid-40s Thursday through Saturday. It may be a few degrees warmer on Sunday.

The lows may prompt those seeking more spring-like conditions to bundle up. They’ll drop to 32 degrees Tuesday and 30 for Wednesday and Thursday, before plummeting to 25 on Friday. They’ll return to the 30s for the weekend.

Gardeners and horticulture lovers may be well advised this week to cover their plants – especially those beginning to bloom. Kate Lundin of Aspen Hollow nursery recommends using a cloth cover versus tarp. She also suggests propping up the cover as a tent.

“The snow on the tarp will crush them,” Lundin said.

Last April brought some of the best skiing conditions of the year, with a dump that helped correct a dry March.
