Armed robber strikes again

Jeff Munson

For the third time in nine days, a woman was accosted by a gunman on Monday night near Stateline and robbed of her purse.

The latest robbery happened at about 6:30 p.m., when a white man, described as being between 20 and 30 years old, 6 feet tall with a thin build, brandished a dark metallic gun at a woman in the parking lot of Embassy Suites near Upper Loop Road on the California side of the state line.

The man was described as wearing a black skull cap, black pants and a black jacket. He was last seen entering Forest Suites Resort. South Lake Tahoe Police officers surrounded all four ends of the building. A police dispatcher confirmed that the robber was not found.

Similar robberies occurred on Dec. 19 and Dec. 21. In both cases, there was a similar description of the gunman. The first robbery occurred at 11 p.m. in the area of Echo Road, a gun was brandished and a purse was stolen. The second robbery happened on Dec. 21 at about 8:30 p.m. behind Raley’s at the Village Center. A woman was walking alone when the man came up from behind, displayed a handgun and demanded her purse. The victim handed over her handbag and was not injured.

The man fled toward the Marriott complex and was not found. At the time of the robbery, he wore a green hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up, light-colored pants and a mask that covered much of his face.
