Four hours after a fire destroyed the interior of a Tahoe Paradise home, police had a suspect in custody.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 44-year-old Wendy Foss on Sunday. Investigators said Foss knew the owner of the home on Washoan Boulevard.

The fire that blew out the windows in the single-story home started about 3:40 p.m. on Sunday. Lake Valley Fire Capt. Steve La Clare said the blaze was started with piles of charcoal placed in four separate areas of the house. No one was in the house when firefighters arrived.

Police believe Foss, who was dating the homeowner, started the fire because of a combination of an argument and alcohol. She was found in the woods near Acoma Court, not far from the home. Investigators said Foss has cuts and injuries to her arms and hands that were consistent with attempts to break into the house. Foss is facing possible felony charges of arson and burglary.

A neighbor said he saw a woman staying at the home the day before the fire.
