The Tahoe Art League invites members of the public to view a demonstration in oil painting by Jim Toenjes, at the monthly meeting on June 10 at 6 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center. This event is free to the public.

Toenjes has painted since the late 1970s, beginning with watercolor and acrylic while working in California and Hawaii as an archaeologist. He later changed to oil, continuing to paint on location. In the mid 1990s he studied portraiture and composition under Jack Rowe.

Previously of Palm Springs, Calif., Toenjes now divides his time between the Southwestern states and Woodland, Wash. where he is a member of the Northwest Oil Painters’ Guild. Toenjes paints entirely on location and uses a core palette of pure secondary colors, yellow, and white.

Toenjes will also conduct a three-day plein air oil painting workshop June 19 to 21, where participants will learn how to mix just four colors to paint the colors of nature. The cost is $135, and registration is limited. For more information about the workshop, demonstration or other Art League activities, visit the Tahoe Art League website http://www.talart.org/. The Tahoe Art League meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe.
