Artists team up to create art
March 4, 2003
A coalition of artists who work in clay, creating everything from pots and bowls to elaborate wall hangings, jewelry and sculpted water fountains, have banded together in their passion to find a way to pursue their art.
On Jan. 19, 12 interested people got together at Karen Whittingham’s home to discuss what could be done, what was needed and how to finance such a project. It was a lively meeting, with much interest and many good ideas. Several participants relayed their experience with other places that had successfully formed co-ops and that ideas was discussed. It was decided to explore the option of finding a “patron of the arts” who could assist with a place to work and display the members’ goods to help them get started.
“If there could be a company that has a vacant building that could be rented for little or no rent for a project such as ours, this would be the dream situation for us,” said artist Norma Young.
The next meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. March 5 at Grand Central Pizza. Anyone interested is welcome to join the group. For more information call Karen at (530) 577-5512 or Teresa at (530) 577-1814.
