August is festival time at historic Tahoe Tallac

The August lineup for the Lake Tahoe Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival includes Celtic, comedy, bluegrass, percussion and more.

At 7:30 Aug. 10, the Tahoe Improv Players will perform at the Boathouse Theatre. Tickets are $10/$5.

Bison, a five-piece bluegrass band, will performs at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Boathouse Theatre as part of the “Locals Only” series. Tickets are $10/$5.

Durga takes the stage at the Boathouse Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12. This multi-media show combines performance, film and narration by Liz Broscoe. Tickets are $15/$12/$5.

Artist-in-residence Kit Knight will appear from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13-19 at the Twin Cabins.

The Gatsby Tea Party on the Valhalla Grand Hall Lawn is set for 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 15. The event is hosted by the Tahoe Heritage Foundation, which will be serving tea, Gatsby-era sweets and savories. The highlight of the afternoon is the fashion show of vintage clothing: themes have ranged from “pack for a cruise” and “summer at the lake” to “wedding trousseau.” Tickets for the tea are available through the Tahoe Heritage Foundation and sell out early at $35 per person. Bare Bones Open Mic will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Boathouse Theater with a variety of music, comedy and spoken word. The series provides a creative stage for musicians, writers, comedians and all other performing artists wanting to be seen and heard. Free.

Gypsy Fire with Russel Ketenjian will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Boathouse Theatre. Ketenjian plays the oud, an ancient, complex stringed instrument. Tickets are $10/$5.

Men of Worth will be on stage at the Boathouse Theatre with James Keigher of Ireland and Donnie Macdonald of Scotland at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Tickets are $18/$15.

Artist Dee Manning will display fine art paintings from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 20-26 at Twin Cabins. Free.

Acclaimed Celtic trio Golden Bough will appear at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Boathouse Theatre. The performance includes Celtic harp, violin, octave-mandolin, guitar, penny-whistle, accordion, viola and bodhran. Tickets are $15/$10.

“The Banjo-ologist” Gordy Ohlinger will appear at 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Boathouse Theatre. Ohlinger is accomplished in all banjo styles. Tickets are $15/$10.

“Talking With,” a collection of 11 monologues, will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23-28 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Boathouse Theatre. Tickets are $18/$15.

A wine tasting sponsored by Apres Wine Bar and a performance of “Talking With” will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Boathouse Theatre. Cost is $50 per couple and $28 per person and includes performance ticket. Tickets are also available without the wine tasting.

Jim Stamates, artist-in-residence, will appear at the Twin Cabins Aug. 27 to Sept. 5 to present award-winning images of wildlife. Free.
