Authorities identify man found floating June 25 in Lake Tahoe

ZEPHYR COVE — A man who was found floating unconscious in Lake Tahoe near a personal watercraft on June 25 has been identified as 21-year-old Jawahar Kaliyamurthy.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Kaliyamurthy was found between Meeks Bay and Cave Rock by a passerby, who called the Coast Guard.

The boater removed Kaliyamurthy from the water and began CPR until Placer County Marine 6 arrived and took over.

The Marine 6 boat crew continued CPR as they transported Kaliyamurthy to Cave Rock, where they met Tahoe Douglas Fire District medics.

Attempts to revive Kaliyamurthy failed, and he was pronounced dead. His relatives were notified of his death.

The cause of death is awaiting a toxicology screening.
