Authorities seek sexual assault suspect

Christina Proctor

Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman early Sunday morning and then left her naked near Pickett’s Junction on State Route 88.

The South Lake Tahoe woman, who police said is in her early 30s, was standing at the corner of Park Avenue and U.S. Highway 50 around midnight when a man drove up and offered her a ride.

The woman told investigators she accepted the offer because she needed a ride to a friend’s home in Chateau Bijou. The man drove the woman to Meyers instead, and took State Route 89 south to Cook’s Meadow.

Police said the man forced the woman to orally copulate him and that he performed other sex acts on her. The woman told police that her assailant forced her to undress. He then drove to Pickett’s Junction, where he forced her out of the car. The man drove off, heading west on State Route 88 toward the Sacramento Valley.

A motorist called 911 and reported a strange woman wandering near the highway. A California Highway Patrol officer found the woman.

The assailant is described as a white male, about 50 years old. He was driving a dark-colored foreign compact sedan.

*Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department at (530) 573-3000.
