Mark Twain once described Lake Tahoe as “the fairest picture the whole earth affords.” Join author David Antonucci for an illustrated talk on exactly which parts of the Tahoe Basin Mark Twain both saw and walked 5:30-7 p.m. Jan. 12 at Lake Tahoe Books and Art.

Antonucci’s talk focuses on the results of his research for his just released book, “Fairest Picture: Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe.” The book describes 12 easily accessible locations in the Lake Tahoe region where Mark Twain traveled or stayed, including the location of his infamous experience of setting a considerable part of that “fairest picture” ablaze.

Fairest Picture also follows Mark Twain’s writings about Lake Tahoe, including his objections to the name “Lake Tahoe,” and debunks a number of Mark Twain-Lake Tahoe myths.

Antonucci is a local historian and also the author of “Snowball’s Chance – The Story of the 1960 Olympic Winter Games.”

After the talk, there will be a meet-and-great session with book signing opportunity or guests can receive a remarque from the book’s cover artist.

Admission is $2 per person in advance or $3 at the door. Those attending the talk can purchase any in-stock title at 10 percent off.

There is plenty of free parking, but seating is limited so advance tickets are advised. Call 530-600-2020 during store hours to reserve a seat.

Lake Tahoe Books and Art is located at 4000 Lake Tahoe Blvd. at Highway 50 and Park Avenue.
