Babe Ruth All-Star stave off elimination

Manager Kevin Higgins learned how his Babe Ruth All-Stars perform with their backs against the wall on Sunday.

Bobby Oakes pitched a complete game and Joey Wightman knocked in four runs with three hits as South Tahoe’s 13-15 All-Stars eliminated Sparks 6-1 at the state tournament at Governor’s Bowl in Reno.

South Tahoe opened the double-elimination tournament on Saturday with a 6-2 defeat to tournament host Reno West.

Meanwhile on Sunday at Lampe Park in Gardnerville, South Tahoe’s 14-Year-old All-Stars were defeated by Carson 13-3.

South Tahoe will play Sparks in an elimination game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lampe Park.
