Steven Mark Williams, who allegedly robbed Bank of the West, was captured in Auburn, Calif., after two witnesses recognized him, police reported.

Williams was spotted last Wednesday by a citizen and an employee for the Placer County Jail who recognized his mug, Sgt. Alex Schumacher said.

Williams took off with an undisclosed amount of money from Bank of the West, located at 2161 Lake Tahoe Blvd., June 5 after escaping from the Nevada City Courthouse June 3 while in court for a bank robbery in Auburn, Calif.

He was transferred to a correctional center in Tracy, Calif. He was serving an 88-year prison sentence when he escaped the courthouse, said Sgt. Joe Salivar from Nevada County Sheriff’s Department.

“I don’t know how much time he’s facing now but it’s going to be a lot,” Salivar said.
