Bank robbery arrest made: suspect is a transient
Authorities arrested a man they believe robbed El Dorado Savings Bank last week and escaped on a red mountain bike.
A shirtless Gordon Simpson was arrested two days after the Monday robbery when he was spotted in residential backyards along Tata Lane, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. Marty Hale.
Simpson, a 49-year-old transient, ran from police, jumped a fence and hid behind a shed before authorities were able to handcuff him, Hale said.
He was admitted to Barton Memorial Hospital for an ailment not related to Wednesday’s arrest, Hale said.
Police knew of Simpson’s identity and connected him to the July 23 robbery, in which Simpson flashed no weapon, but passed a note, Hale said.
