Barouque band plays bookstore

Dream Spirit Baroque Band will present a holiday concert from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at Mountain Spirit Bookstore, 3945 Harrison Ave. The band performs light-hearted music in a variety of styles from many different cultures and eras. Favorites include classical, baroque, Celtic, renaissance, ethic and folk chamber music from around the world. Holiday selections will include carols, popular favorites such as Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer and a variety of festive music. The performance is suitable for all ages.

The four local musicians play an original mix of instruments. Performers are Jack Shipley, hammer dulcimer, which sounds like a harpsichord, and recorder; John Smart, guitar; Suzanne Stone, cello; and Diana Woodbury, violin. Their sound has been described as “hip” chamber music.

The band has been together for two years. They have performed at local coffeehouses, art show openings, community events and public concerts as well as private parties, weddings and celebrations.

For the performance, “A Holiday Concert,” the fireplace will be lit and chairs gathered round. The event is open to the public. There is not charge but donations will be accepted. For more information call (530) 544-2244 or (530) 544-7036.
