Barton Foundation elects new officers

Stacy Dingman, past Chairwoman of the Barton Foundation, literally passes the hat to new Foundation Chairman Mike Riley.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” The Barton Foundation Board of Trustees elected new officers at their annual meeting April 8 at Mirabelle’s Restaurant.

Mike Riley of First Allied Securities takes over as chairman; Julie Regan, communications and legislative affairs chief of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, is vice chairwoman; and Lorraine Turner, human resources director at Embassy Suites is the new secretary/treasurer.

The Foundation has had quite a few changes in its membership this past year with some longtime Trustees retiring from the Board. This has led to six new trustees joining the board recently and they are Adrian Escobedo of Lake Tahoe Unified School District; Sean Sweeney of Sierra-at-Tahoe and the Sportsman; Garth Alling of Hauge Brueck; Brooke Hernandez of Chase International; Dr. Paula Crenshaw of Tahoe Medical Group Internal Medicine; and Dr. Patricia L. Ferraro, Podiatrist.

“There are a lot of changes afoot at the Barton Foundation,” said Riley, foundation chairman. “We have new leadership and we are charting a new course for the future with a greater emphasis on improving the health of the South Lake Tahoe community.

“We’re very proud of the work we have done over the years for the hospital. We have always provided support for community health but that is going to become an even greater focus for us in the future. We look forward to great things in the years ahead,” Riley said.

The Barton Foundation was founded in 1990 to support Barton HealthCare and since that time has contributed more than $2 million to support the health care needs of the South Lake Tahoe community. In 2008, the Foundation raised more than $493,000 to help purchase new medical equipment and provide services such as free mammogram screenings for low-income women, Spanish language diabetes education classes, training for hospice and home health nurses and much more.
