Bear visits home for a snack

South Lake Tahoe resident Jullie Shanks came home Wednesday about 6:30 p.m. to find this bear in her house near Herbert Avenue and Pioneer Trail. “My neighbor told me he was in the house, and I go and look and he’s laying on the bed with an angel food cake and a can of whipped cream,” Shanks said. “We watched him and I called animal control and he just decided he was going to walk out the window. He pushed the screen in when he went in. He got out and moseyed along Pioneer and was long gone by the time animal control came.” This is the second time the bear has showed up at her home, Shanks said. “Last time, he made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He ate two jars of peanut butter and two jars of jelly and there was bread all over the place and chips in the trash,” she said. Shanks said she isn’t scared of the bear because she knows they’re all over the area and last time she scared him away herself.
