Berger loses Aces’ debut
SALT LAKE CITY- Cole Gillespie hit a two-run double and later came around to score as part of a three-run Aces fourth, but Salt Lake fired back in the home half of the inning and topped Reno 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Reno fell into an early three-run hole, but the Aces rallied back with a three-run frame of their own in the fourth to tie the score. Salt Lake answered with two runs in the home half of the fourth to regain the lead before tacking on an insurance run in the seventh to put the Aces away.
Aces’ starter Andrew Berger (0-1) took the loss in his Triple-A debut. Berger allowed five runs on five hits over three innings. He walked five and struck out one in a 75-pitch effort. Kasey Olenberger surrendered a run over 3 1/3 innings of work, before Leyson Septimo came on to hold the Bees scoreless over the final 1 2/3 innings.
The win went to Bees’ starter Amalio Diaz (5-6), who scattered three runs – two earned – on six hits over six frames. Fernando Rodriguez, Ysmael Carmona and Bobby Cassevah each tossed a scoreless frame to close out the proceedings for Salt Lake.
At the dish for Reno, Gillespie led the way with a hit and two RBI.
