A bicyclist suffered a serious head injury Monday afternoon after crashing at the intersection of Johnson Lane and Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

About 3 p.m. the man was riding eastbound on the south side of Lake Tahoe Boulevard when a truck began turning left onto Johnson Lane, said South Lake Tahoe police Lt. David Stevenson. The truck was traveling westbound on Lake Tahoe Boulevard and turning through a break in backed up traffic, Stevenson said.

The bicyclist swerved and/or breaked to avoid hitting the truck and crashed, Stevenson said. Witnesses reported the truck did not make contact with the man during the crash.

The man was flown to Reno for medical treatment. His condition was not available Thursday. The man’s name, age and place of residence were also not immediately available because reports had yet to be written, Stevenson said.

Whether the driver of the truck or the bicyclist is at fault in the crash has not been determined. The incident remains under investigation.
