Big donations in District 4 race

Greg Risling

The race for the District 4 seat in El Dorado County is heating up.

Incumbent Walt Shultz has raised more than $11,000 for the June primary but challenger Penny Humphreys isn’t far behind with more than $7,000.

Most of Humphreys contributions are in the range of $100 while Shultz has received $2,000 each from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Association and Westel-Oriattt Lumber Co. He also has the support from the Bacchi family, who own a ranch in Lotus.

Some of Humphrey’s bigger donations came from Richard Simpson ($400); state employees Pete Melincoe and Kelly Mayfield ($200); and Dan Silverberg ($250).

Humphreys, a resident of Rescue, has spent nearly $4,800 while her opponent has expenditures totaling $1,526.
