Bike to Work Week rider profile: Scott Valentine
32 years old
Earth Science instructor at Lake Tahoe Community College
From May to October, Valentine rides his 1979 Beach Cruiser to work, weather permitting. For Bike to Work Week, he plans on riding the 3 1/2 miles from his Tahoe Keys home along a bike path to Lake Tahoe Community College every day except for Tuesday, when he needs to travel to Minden.
He didn’t officially sign up last year ” and he still was lagging last week in officially registering this time around ” but Valentine said he doesn’t need much motivation to ride his bike.
“I guess I could say I do it because of gas prices and the environment, which is part of it, but really I do it because I hate driving my car,” he said. “My car is all right, but anytime I am not locked in my car, it’s a whole lot better. It’s like my office. Anything is better than in here.”
