Bike to Work Week rider profile: Stan Hill

Stan Hill works for the city of South Lake Tahoe.

52 years old

City of South Lake Tahoe engineering manager

Stan Hill will have one of the longest commutes of any Bike to Work Week participant. A Gardnerville resident, his house is 26 miles from the city of South Lake Tahoe offices via Kingsbury Grade and 36 miles via Luther Pass.

He’s on the record as saying he will bike round trip Monday, Wednesday and Friday, possibly riding up Kingsbury Grade on the way to work and over Luther Pass on the way home. He will bike in some capacity on Tuesday and Thursday but might incorporate the Kingsbury Express shuttle into his plans.

Depending on the route, he’s facing a two- to 2 1/2-hour ride each way, so what’s his plan for showering when he gets to work?

“I’ll just have to towel off, because we don’t have a shower here.”
